Leadership
The Shaggar Institute of Technology (SIT) is a teaching and research university established in collaboration with notable technologists, including NASA space scientist Dr. Berhanu Bulcha. Our mission is to advance science and technological innovation in Ethiopia by providing hands-on education, fostering curiosity, and preparing future scientists, engineers, and researchers. SIT offers transformative education in Electrical and Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, and Space Science and Engineering. We collaborate with national and international organizations to ensure students receive a modern education and research experience that tackles critical issues in Ethiopia through applied science and technology.

Meet Our Board Members

Dr. Berhanu Bulcha
Dr. Berhanu Bulcha, a NASA scientist with extensive experience in space technology, spearheaded SIT with a vision to transform Ethiopia into a hub of scientific and technological innovation.

Dr. Teshome Adugna
Dr. Teshome Adugna is the Mayor of Shaggar City, Ethiopia. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the Ethiopia Civil Service University.

Prof. Solomon Bililign
Professor Solomon Bililign is a Professor of Physics, Applied Sciences and Technology at North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&T) with extensive experience in academia and research. He is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring, presented in 2010.

Amb. Dr Seleshi Bekele
Amb. Dr Seleshi Bekele Former Minster of Water, Irrigation and Energy; Chief Negotiator on GERD and was Dean at AWTI.

Prof. Mahlet Tadesse
Professor Mahlet Tadesse is a professor and the department chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgetown University. She is a biostatistician by training. Her research focuses on the development of statistical and computational tools for the analysis of large-scale genomic data. She is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Prof. Tilahun Adera
Professor Tilahun Adera is an epidemiologist and currently a Professor Emeritus at Virginia Commonwealth University. He previously served as University Dean of the College of Health and Social Services at New Mexico State University.

Dr. Getahun Mekuria
Dr. Getahun Mekuria is a technologist who served as Ethiopia’s Minister of Education from January 2020 to October 2021. He also served as Minister of Innovation and Technology from 2016 to 2020.

Dr. Worku Gachena
Dr. Worku Gachena is the Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute(EAII), Leading initiatives to integrate AI technologies across various sectors in Ethiopia.

Dr. Tola Beriso
Dr. Tola Beriso is the Head of the regional Education Bureau in Ethiopia with years of experience in educational policy.
